Murphy's Law

A couple of days ago Murphy's Law was in full effect at work. The Cat was unplugged all night with negative temperatures (diesel wont start in that case), the snowmobile decided to quit running while I was at Patrol HQ, I got hit by a snowboarder while giving a SnowBike lesson, and there were too many disgruntled customers to count (these people don't realize thousands of people go on vacation at the same time which results in long lines, they think this is my fault).

So after that all happened on Friday, I had Saturday and Sunday off. I skied my butt off yesterday which left me very sore today, but it was all worth it. I got into the Outback and did lots of tree runs, as to get away from the 10,000+ people at the resort this weekend. It was cold enough I only lasted about 4 hours and decided to call it a day.

Sunday I woke up and Tanner called me to go to Sunshine Cafe for breakfast. It was delicious and a good shelter from the negative temps and 30 mph winds outside. We went next door to a secondhand gear shop - oops I bought skis. I have been in the market form a Telemark setup and this one was too good to pass up. All I need to do now is buy some boots, can't bring myself to buy used ones so I'll have to wait a couple weeks for another paycheck.

Decided not to ski today due to crowds and weather but I will be getting lots of other stuff done, like updating this blog. Here are some pictures from the past week.
A customer brought a dog up the other day, we thought we should have a picture of our new mascot. His name was Tiny.
My new skis, $200 complete with bindings, never used. Bought by a local pro but he never got around to using them, they are 3 years old and definitely on the tall side. Still I can't wait to use them.
Another girl I work with, Jessica Johnson (kind of funny if you can remember back to my high school love) made this for me for Christmas. She thought I needed something more fashionable, and this only took her an hour.
So this is what my lip looks like after my accident. I was leading my group towards the lift and out of nowhere a snowboarder plows into me from behind going mach 10 in a slow zone. Never saw it happen, just woke up on the snow and my face was bleeding. Cracked a little cartalidge in my nose, bit through my lip, and skinned the outside of my lip. The kid broke his wrist and goggles and tried to run from Ski Patrol. They caught him at the base (the idiot went into the clinic). I ID'd him over the phone and they took his pass away for 2 weeks, now he has to attend safety meetings to get it back. Here in Colorado skiing/riding on the mountain carries with it the same responsibilities as driving (i.e. speeding, staying in control, recklessness, and it is possible to get DUI).

That's all for now, time to read some Christmas letters.

looks nasty bro, but you came out pretty well considering the circumstances... cool that they can bust those guys like that... keep on posting, I'm living my winter vicariously thru your blog this year!

I am glad your injuries were minor. Take care of them and yourself. I am glad it wasn't worse. I am glad they are so tough on the snow boarders. I think those things should be band. Oh, well. That must be the mom in me speaking. I do like the hat. Maybe I could borrow it when I visit.

Telemark skis nice. I've been wanting to try the sport. I'm going to be in Winter Park for a week in March. If I drive to Keystone for a day trip will you give me a lesson. Hope your holidays where good. Snow boarding isn't a crime!

Well I was trying to keep the disease under wraps so I could heal it up but you let the cat out of the bag Petey, jeez.

Chad - I think I'll be good enough with telemark by the time you get here. Of course I'll teach you, heck I might even come up to Winter Park.
