April Powder Day

In 2 days Keystone received 13 inches of new snow and I was planning to go nowhere near the mountain. That all changed on Tuesday morning when I looked out my window to new snow and blue skies. Needless to say I grabbed the skis and headed up. Jeffey decided to go too and we took three runs in the Windows.

The best part of the Windows is that hardly anyone goes up there, especially to the very top. It is about a half hour hike up and well worth it, best snow in the whole resort. First two were on Roulette and the final was down, well I can't say because it is Jeffey's little secret and he was kind enough to let me in on it. Let's just say that run was one of the top 3 of the year. Open powder fields with rock drop after rock drop. First two turns of that run and we triggered a small slide, not an avalanche by any means, but about 6" deep and around 20' across was sliding right behind us. It stopped about 30 seconds later.

After that I boogied for the car and headed south. Arrived at the trailhead around 1:30 and started the ski into the cabin. Full report coming soon, for now time to pack for the Des Moines trip.

One picture from the trip:
The view I woke up to this morning.
