Powder and Golf

So the two should not be in the same sentence but that is exactly what happened this past weekend. Thursday brought the Checkerboard Challenge and the beginning of the best powder dump this season.

First off, Checkerboard Challenge is a golf outing that benefits Keystone Kares. This money goes to someone in dire need, as in last year's case it went to a patroler who was injured and his family. The biggest difference is this take place on Checkerboard, the beginners area at the base. Eight holes in the snow and the final at the Snake River Saloon.

A view from the top, tee box number two. All holes are considered a par 4 due to conditions of weather, terrain, and players.

A zoom in of hole 2, about a 10 feet diameter patch around the pin signifies the hole.

The winning team (minus the photographer - me) Tanner, Jeffey, and Hoov. We are hiking up hole 6, up Go Devil, the steepest front-side run.

Oh and we won, only team to do all 9 holes. The other teams did 3 on the snow and the final one at the Snake.

As for the snow, 34" at A-Basin in 3 days. Fifteen inches on the first two days and the remaining 4 yesterday. Unfortunately I was unable to attend patrol tryouts at Loveland since I-70 was closed from Golden to Vail, along with all the highway passes in the area. Oh well, they understood and I got 2 great powder days.

Finishing up the coffee on this gorgeous sunny day and then it is off to Breckenridge (second visit this season) to see the knee droppers bust some bumps.
