As for the trail work and racing aspect, Maharray's Time Trial was this weekend (actually titled Rob's Weekend of fun. Squirrel and I hiked up on hillside Wednesday to go over course layout, he would be gone for Gnome Fest and relinquished his Trail Guru position to me for the weekend. Some minor mowing and weed-eating done on Friday and then a matter of waiting to see what the weather would do.
In the meantime it was the Rasmussen Death Squad 5000 (damn I love saying that) party on Saturday night. Never knew what those big white barns out on SW Army Post Road were all about, now I do. Let me tell you, the Rassy Team parties have come a long way from the days of bringing homemade pizza to Jason Alread's house. While that was always fun, Collier rolled out the red carpet for us with catered BBQ, Fat Tire on tap, live band, good ol' fashioned farm-style bonfire (think 10' diameter, started with gas, and at one time 10' flames). Yeah, all was good there. Great to see everyone, might be the last time I see some before departure to Colorado.
Drove home around 11:30 and it was pouring by the time I got to the west end of Des Moines. Drove down to the pool lot and it was pretty wet, walked in to the first bridge on hillside - all good. Didn't bother calling Cam or Chris since the race would be a go.
Up at 6 to prepare for minor trail work and course marking. Race went off without a hitch and I had the 4th fastest time. the 20 minutes and 23 seconds went by in a blur. All I really remember was passing Maharray (thanks for moving over so quick), Lou giving me a couple splits on Hillside, and the taste of blood in my mouth while I eased my heart rate past 190 (don't use those monitors anymore, just know that taste appears around that mark and things get blurry past 200). Oh and things went blurry after awhile too. Kent has a good recap of the weekend here.
Raining now so I have time for sifting through photos...
