Changing of the Seasons

Tomorrow will be the longest day of the year, and I am planning a nice long ride to take full advantage of the planned sunshine. Today, not so much with the sun - a rather gray day from sun-up. A well placed day for recovery and cleaning.

Work has consisted of re-veg (seeding, fertilizing, and putting hay on patches of the mountain that need help), burning of beetle-kill, and a little snow maintenance. The burning consisted of 14 piles of trees on a steep little pitch of Starfire on North Peak. Heat was the name of the game for Tuesday and Wednesday. I was on the 7am to 5pm shift of fire watch. Meaning we got to light and and add to the fires. The late crew could only shuffle around the fire; not able to start any or add any fuel. The fires were out by Thursday afternoon.

Ever have those frustrating days of work where nothing goes right? That was Thursday; broken truck, seeder on the Argo didn't work, mulcher had no oil cap ergo hay was in the engine, Argo overheated halfway up the hill, spreader lost a pin while spreading, and then it was 4:45. Meaning I went in Friday to finish up the summit area for the big wedding today - and it is raining on them now. But Friday made up for it all as Levi, Mary, and I met Hoover on his sailboat at Lake Wolford. After several beers and some decent sailing we watched the sun go down next to Rabbit Ears and we moored-up. Levi sernaded us some in the campsite and Mary drove us home.

Looking down the slope on the recently started piles.

Lee taking a sit while watching for any rollers wanting to take off.

Thanks for reading and now off to do some cleaning and plan a route for tomorrow.
